Extending Flash Builder

We shipped. Now what?

So the new version of Flash Builder 4 has been officially released.  It has a number of great new features and it’s a huge step forward from Flex Builder 3.

A new version of the Code Model APIs have also been released.  This is a pretty serious step forward in terms of the API.  In addition to performance improvements, the APIs for dealing with parse trees has been greatly improved.

For me, I’ve left the Flash Builder team and am now working on the next generation compiler at Adobe.  I’ll start updating about that work soon.

  1. Are you working on Sherlock?

I noticed that project on Adobe’s JIRA system a while back, but I’ve yet to see anyone from Adobe talk about the project.

  2. In all these years little has really changed. It’s all about the compiler. It’s the magic we all take for granted.

  3. That’s really great to hear! Faster compiler is a must, because compiling big flex projects takes definitely to much of our precious time;) Good luck!
