Flash Builder Development

Come see me speak at Adobe MAX 2006

So I’ll be given a talk at MAX on intergrating Flex 2.0 with open source PHP technologies…it should be pretty cool!

I’ll cover how not to write PHP, how to make PHP fit into SOA and a number of open source technologies which play nice with Flex.

Besides the PHP talk, feel free to chat me up about Flex Builder 2 either around the conference or at the Flex gathering we’ll be throwing. I’d love to hear thoughts on the code development experience in Flex Builder and any features you’d love to see in 3.0. Besides refactoring…I know that already…we want it, and you’ve all mentioned it a million times. :)
Anyway, hope to see everyone in Vegas!

  1. Look forward to it. I’ve been hacking some Flex and PHP together on my Mac and would love to learn some more.

  2. David:
I’m looking forward to it! We’ve had some great exposure to the PHP RIA SDK by Adobe lately, with many community members contributing to it.
For those interested, http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/articles/flex_php_sdk.html has the details.

  3. A list of feature requests
    · Solve conflicts with jdt
    · Pretty print
    · Code templates
    · No need to create a different kind of project for library projects. Would be great to do it throgh export (like in jdt when you create a jar).
    · Hierarchy and call hierarchy. Incredibly useful when evaluating the impact of a change in your code.

  4. 1 000 001 — REFACTORING!!! If I had to choose between yet another web browser (Apollo) or refactoring support in FB, I would not think a second!

  5. Hi David, I attended your PHP talk yesterday afternoon… found it quite interesting. I’m not a Flex developer but I like to keep on top of all the different ways of building web apps. Your session provided tons of useful info.

I agree that PHP generating HTML makes for disastrously unmaintainable code. Dreamweaver’s Spry framework looks like a good way around that, if you still want an HTML front end.

Anyway, great session and great conference overall.

  7. Hello David, I really enjoyed the session. I was wondering where I could download some of the source code you presented.
